Ranking Roger

Ranking Roger, born Roger Charlery on February 21, 1963, in Birmingham, England, was a prominent British musician and vocalist known for his influential role in the ska and reggae genres. He gained fame as a member of the seminal ska band The Beat (known as The English Beat in the U.S.) during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The band's notable works include hits like "Mirror in the Bathroom," "Save It for Later," and "Can't Get Used to Losing You," which blended punk rock energy with reggae rhythms. In addition to his work with The Beat, Ranking Roger formed the spin-off group General Public, contributing to their hit "I'll Take You There." He also pursued a solo career, releasing albums such as "Radical Departure" in 1988 and "The Third Wave" in 1998, showcasing his signature vocal style and lyrical themes. Ranking Roger's impact on music extends beyond his performances; he helped popularize ska music worldwide and influenced subsequent generations of musicians within the genre.
